Hospitality, inviting all to return
Merkinė, in its most prosperous years, was one of the main towns in the region, bringing together craftsmen, traders and artisans. Crafts and food markets were held here, attracting people from all over the region and beyond.
We believe that Merkinės fabrikas can again become a cultural, gastronomic and educational destination. People closely connected with the area’s history, crafts and customs already work here, and will come to work here in the future. With passion and love for this area, we are prepared to make our vision become a reality and resurrect the manor estate, to begin a new life.
What are we doing?
Trainings
Working together with professional lecturers, we organise trainings and seminars to share best practice.
Partners and mentors
Our mentors include people who have already learned entrepreneurship skills and have created their own businesses, such as Vytaras Radzevičius and Niels Peter Pretzmann.
Community
At the manor estate, we bring together the community and strengthen our relationships and connections. Local residents inspire us with authentic story-telling, and our cultural space allows different points of view to encounter each other.
Crafts market
We invite local farmers and producers to present what they raise, grow, produce, make or create. At Merkinės fabrikas, we seek to restore the crafts that once flourished here: sweets, soap, authentic baskets.
Creative workshops
We will establish a space for creative workshops for local craftspeople and folk artists, in which they will be able to develop and commercialise their activities.
Trainings and seminars
Hospitality is Merkinė’s greatest asset. The guests who regularly return here want to find all the services that travellers need. That requires preparation, so we seek to contribute to residents’ sense of entrepreneurship: to raise their level of qualification, to develop their intercultural competence, and to increase opportunities to improve practical skills.
